<\/p>\r\nUnidos para la Familia believes strongly in the importance of working together with the whole family.\u00a0 While people may individually participate in our services, we encourage them to take part as a family unit in the events we plan and in the family advocacy provided.<\/p>\n
Throughout the year, Unidos typically has at least one family event per month. Some of the events are designed to be family fun events such as a movie night or Back to School party, while other events encourage our families to volunteer and give back to the community. We believe strongly that our families should be actively making their community stronger.\u00a0 Because the classes and family advocacy they participate in are provided at no cost to them, we encourage families to bless others as they have been blessed. Our families have been involved in making enchiladas for the homeless and helping to install a new playground in a local community park.<\/p>\n

One of Unidos long-range goals is to help provide healthy food for families while offering instruction to families on how they can help provide this for themselves at a minimal cost. Our first community garden was started in 2015 at Indian Avenue school. Because of its success, in 2017, the Pascale Sykes Foundation\u2019s community investment partner, New Jersey Community Capital, awarded a grant of $12,000 to start three more community gardens. This led to gardens at Cherry Street, West Avenue and Bridgeton High Schools. Bridgeton High School was additionally the recipient of a generous donation from the Procacci family of a greenhouse, which is the cornerstone of the District\u2019s Food Service Program\u2019s living classroom project.<\/p>\n

Revive South Jersey, Unidos para la Familia\u2019s lead partner, worked hand-in-hand with KaBoom!, Dr. Pepper Snapple group, the City of Bridgeton and area businesses to make possible the installation of a new playground at the Johnson Reeves park. KaBoom! and the Dr. Pepper Snapple group provided a $15,000 grant, with additional support coming from local businesses and the City of Bridgeton. Families from Unidos, area churches and organizations came out to install the playground together.\u00a0In addition to the new playground equipment, a community building on the park grounds was also restored, which are used to provide family programming in the community.<\/p>\n
